The Dixie Classic Fair is the second largest agricultural Fair in North Carolina, with attendance that averages 325,000 visitors each year. It is owned and operated by the City of Winston-Salem after being donated to the City by the Winston-Salem Foundation in December 1969.
Operating each year during the first of October, the ten day annual Fair features a world-class carnival with numerous rides and games. The Fair books entertainment by nationally known musical artists, as well as rodeo bull riding, and motor sports such as demolition derbies and tractor pulls.
There are over 20,000 annual entries competing for blue ribbons and premiums, coming from the greater Piedmont Triad area of North Carolina as well as from neighboring states. There are over 70,000 square feet of exhibits offering livestock, poultry, educational booths, fine arts and crafts, hobbycrafts, food preservation, homemaking, photography, antiques, flowers and national cooking competitions. The Fair features horticulture exhibits which include fruits, vegetables, wheat, grains, and tobacco, promoting our local agricultural heritage. Agricultural demonstrations are also popular at the Dixie Classic Fair. There are several historic demonstrations that can be seen in Yesterday Village, a reconstructed village built from log buildings donated to the Fair. A few examples of the demonstrations available include a Blacksmith shop, Tinsmithing, weaving on a loom, antiques and restored farm machinery displays.
Fair Food! Take your choice, from candy apples, cotton candy, fried candy bars, polish sausage, turkey legs, funnel cakes, BBQ, hamburgers, hot dogs, and much more. With over 100 food concessionaires located throughout the Fair, you will never be hungry.
Over 130 commercial vendors promoting their products from jewelry, collectibles, photography, unique products and services set up shop in the Coliseum Annex.
The annual Dixie Classic Fair has something for everyone of all ages to enjoy!
